MISSISSAUGATeacher Assistant - Child Care EducatorEffective: immediately (10-month permanent position from September to end of June)Working hours between 8:00 a.mand 6:00 p.m(to be confirmed)Monday to FridayDescription:Reporting to the Principal or its delegates and working with classroom and resource teachers, this person will be responsible for the following: Assisting students with their learning Fostering a purposeful atmosphere; maintaining good classroom management Monitoring student behavior and modeling positive behavior Using appropriate language, interactions and positive discipline Organizing the before and after school program Planning, conducting and participating in varied educational / art / craft / game activities suitable for children of varied ages Supervising, guiding, helping and engaging students with homework tasks as needed Organizing and staffing full day child care program for days school is closed for normal classes Ordering and preparing snacks Helping students (snacks, medication, clothes, shoes, bathroom) as need be - Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, etc. Providing children with a tidy, clean, healthy, safe and secure environment; monitoring students reallergies (food, hand washing, etc.); Insuring student safety at all times Maintaining a log of activities Maintaining a parent communication log Liaising with classroom, specialist and Learning Forum teachers to ensure Learning Development Plans are followed; relaying parental concerns Ensuring that administrative tasks are properly executed, such as keeping records of attendance; sending billing info to accounts, verifying student attendance Maintaining a collaborative relationship with all stakeholders Other related duties as assigned (could be asked to help in replacement of teachers etc.)Education and Experience Excellent French and English skills (oral and written) Diploma in early childhood education (ECE) from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology, or a 3-year CEGEP program or an academic qualification considered equivalent. Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with children (pre-school, primary and junior levels) Excellent interpersonal skills, respectful and diplomatic communication skills with students, parents and staff Strong work ethic and effective time management skills Independent and reliable team player, flexible with the ability to work in a demanding environment and to transition easily depending on the situation Proven effective conflict resolution and problem solving skills Discretion Please send your letter of motivation and résumé ASAP to: dgagne@tfs.ca
